The History of Beautiful Burlington | Maid of Honor

Updated: Aug 31, 2021

Burlington was established as a settlement on the beautiful shore of Lake Ontario in 1873. It became a town in 1914. I find it stunning that this was really only a short time ago! The Q.E.W. was built in 1939, connecting the town to Toronto and therefore merging it into a Toronto suburb. (The Skyway Bridge to Hamilton however, was yet to exist.) Before the second world war we were known as the Garden city, focusing on growing and marketing fruit. Post war, it began to transform into it's own economy. The Skyway Bridge was built in 1958.

We are late bloomers. Hamilton has been a city since 1846! We weren't declared a city until 1974. That's what makes it perfect, though. The region of Halton was developed with care for existing trees, perhaps learning from the mistakes of early city planners, and I believe that's part of what makes it one of the most beautiful cities on the globe.

The Great Lakes are a marvel. Niagara falls is a wonder. Toronto is an experience. What better place to have it all than in Burlington, Ontario, Canada. You even have the name of a reputable home cleaning company

, if you need to set one up when you move down.
